Growing up on the North Side of Chicago, Jimmy Kaps has always been immersed in House Music. His musical journey began in high school, collecting mixtapes and tuning into late-night DJ sets on B96 and WNUR 89.3 FM. During his college years at Columbia College, he got his first pair of turntables and never looked back. Starting in his basement, Jimmy trained his ears to beatmatch and developed a unique style, frequenting local record shops like Gramaphone Records and attending rave parties with friends.
Known for his versatile and electrifying selections, Jimmy Kaps masterfully blends genres ranging from Classic Rock and 70s Boogie Disco to Funk, Old School Chicago Jackin House, Soulful House, Latin House, Deep Tech House, and shades of Techno. His extended DJ sets take listeners on a long musical journey, always keeping them engaged with an open mind while staying true to his distinctive sound.
As the longtime host of the “Skerd To Dance” show on Bridgeport’s lumpenradio.com(WLPN-LP 105.5 FM), Jimmy captivates audiences every first and third Thursday from 4-6pm. His past residencies in some of Chicago’s top hotels, restaurants, and bars have also solidified his reputation as a sought-after DJ.
